The Capricornian celebrates International Day of Cooperatives

The Capricornian has welcomed the theme for 2019’s United Nations International Day of Cooperatives, ‘COOPS 4 Decent Work’ on Saturday July 6.
The theme for 2019 recognises how cooperatives create a decent working environment for their employees and contribute to better working standards for the communities they serve.

The Capricornian is one of Australia’s 72 customer owned banking institutions that uses 100 per cent of profits to benefit customers. The Capricornian CEO Dale Grounds says The Capricornian is proud to be a cooperative that creates jobs in the Central Queensland community.

“One of the strengths of the customer owned model is that we employ local people and give back to local communities.

“At The Capricornian we have 7 branches as well as ATMs in communities across CQ to serve our customers and help them achieve their financial goals.

“Part of being a customer owned banking institution is being part of the community. That’s why The Capricornian employs 50 people to serve our more than 10,000 customers.

“The Capricornian is proud to be a part of a movement that is helping Australians have decent jobs.”

According to the United Nations, the International Day of Cooperatives is an annual celebration of the cooperative movement that has taken place on the first Saturday of July since 1923.
