New Year Message from the CEO
Posted on December 21st, 2018
Happy New Year and a warm welcome to 2019!
Wow! What a year 2018 was for The Capricornian, your financial institution. As CEO of the region’s only locally based, customer owned financial institution, I am very proud of what we were able to achieve this past year and excited for what is still to come in the next 12 months.
Our name, The Capricornian, is not just a name – it represents that we are, and always will be, a local organisation. Our continued emphasis on nurturing the community in which we operate has remained a key focus of our organisation and shows a real commitment to the region. Over the course of the 17/18 financial year we provided over $100,000 worth of support in sponsorships and donations to our local community. We also added to our long-standing sponsorship program with a community grant program for larger scale projects and events. Through the first two rounds of funding we were able to assist seven different not-for-profit organisations with grants totaling over $25,000. More about this program and the latest recipients can be found within this newsletter.
In recent times Central Queensland suffered the blow of several major financial institutions withdrawing their services from regional towns. Our commitment is such that when the Central Highlands Regional Council contacted us, we saw it as our duty to explore the feasibility of opening branches in the impacted towns. We are excited to announce that we have made the decision to open a Capricornian Branch in Springsure, returning banking services to the town. We are looking to open this branch in the first half of 2019. Should this branch be successful we will then investigate extending a similar service to other regional areas.
Additionally, construction is due to commence mid-January at our Emerald branch. Not only are we renovating the branch to give it a fresh, modern look, we will be joined in branch by Westfund Health Insurance. This newly formed partnership will give Capricornian and Westfund members the opportunity to fulfill their banking, general insurance and health insurance needs under one roof.
This year The Capricornian will be celebrating 60 years of operation and we thank all those that have supported us over this time. We are planning a special celebration for this milestone and will advise all members once details have been finalised. I hope that you are able to join us to celebrate this fantastic achievement.
So as you can see 2019 has plenty in store for your financial institution as we continue to serve and support Central Queensland. I thank you for choosing The Capricornian for your banking needs.
