Building Central Queensland’s Future – The Capricornian’s Community Grants Program

3 minute read

At The Capricornian, our commitment to Central Queensland goes beyond financial services. We believe in investing in the community and supporting projects that make a real difference in the lives of our fellow residents. Our Community Grants Program is a testament to this commitment, and we’re thrilled to share the latest updates from our journey.

History of The Capricornian’s Community Grants Program

Established in 2018, The Capricornian’s Community Grants Program has grown into a cornerstone of our commitment to Central Queensland. Since its inception, we’ve been dedicated to empowering our local community by providing financial support to not-for-profit organizations and projects that drive positive change. With a total of $25,000 available annually, split across two funding rounds, this program has already made a significant impact, enriching the lives of Central Queensland residents. As we look to the future, we remain committed to fostering growth, development, and community spirit.

Record-Breaking Applications in April 2023

In April 2023, our community came together in a remarkable way. We received an astounding 23 grant applications, totaling an impressive $183,577 worth of projects and events. It’s inspiring to see the passion and creativity of our Central Queensland community.

Three deserving organizations received funding for their outstanding projects:

Rockhampton State High School P&C: We provided $8,617 to help them purchase a new Human Powered Vehicle, which students will race competitively in the Queensland Pedal Prix Super Series. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a tool for education, teamwork, and community pride.

Rockhampton North Special School P&C: A grant of $10,000 enabled them to create a sensory garden and outdoor area. This space is designed to be wheelchair-friendly with accessible raised garden beds, making it a place of relaxation, learning, and sensory exploration for all students.

Birralee Kindergarten in Gladstone: They received $2,000 to purchase a marquee, a versatile addition to their fundraising events. This marquee not only helps build their profile in the community but also provides essential protection from the harsh Central Queensland sun.

A Growing Impact in Central Queensland

The response to our Community Grants Program has been outstanding. In fact, our intake for the final round of 2023, which closed on Friday, 27th October, saw a new record with 30 applications received, surpassing the April round of 23. These applications represent a combined total of $189,229 worth of projects and events that will enrich Central Queensland.

Currently, we’re diligently assessing the October round of grant applications and will be announcing the recipients by Friday, 10th November. It’s an exciting time, and we can’t wait to see the incredible projects that will come to life in our community.

Looking Ahead to 2024

As we reflect on the success of 2023, we’re already planning for the future. Keep an eye on our website for the announcement of the 2024 grant application dates. We’re excited to continue our journey of community support and look forward to even more remarkable projects in the coming year.
