Rockhampton RSL Sub Branch

Historical Wall – Lest We Forget

The long-standing memorial wall at Frenchville Sports Club, which honours our Australian Allies who served alongside Australian forces, is set to receive a meaningful addition.

Thanks to the dedication of the Rockhampton RSL Sub Branch, a new section of the memorial wall will be erected later in 2025. This expansion will allow for additional plaques to pay tribute and further honour the service and sacrifice of the Australian military throughout history.

We were proud to support this important initiative, with Jael Dale having the honour of presenting a cheque for $4,556.20 to the Rockhampton RSL Sub Branch..

Frenchville State School

Frenchville State School P&C is incredibly grateful and honoured to have received a $2,000 grant from The Capricornian to purchase much-needed Tuckshop equipment. These items will help them to safely accommodate the various health needs and evolving demographics of their student population.

The funding helped Frenchville State School purchase an industrial microwave, air fryer, Mix Master, and sandwich press. Students and staff are thrilled with the new appliances, as they now have the ability to cook popular snacks like gluten-free chicken nuggets, popcorn, and toasties.

Fitzroy Frogs Triathlon Club

The Capricornian is thrilled to once again partner with Fitzroy Frogs at the 2025 Rocky Triathlon.

As Major Sponsor of the event for the third year in a row, the aptly named ‘The Capricornian Rocky Tri’ is a Women’s and Under 15’s endurance multisport race, consisting of swimming, cycling, and running.

Michelle Williamson, The Fitzroy Frogs event coordinator said the event is about empowering participants in a supportive and all-inclusive environment.

Emu Park Swimming Club

We are proud to support the Emu Park Swimming Club through our Round 15 Community Grant Program. Our team had the pleasure of presenting a $4,000 grant to the club, with the cheque handed over by our team.

Brook Miller, a spokesperson for the club, expressed their gratitude, stating, “Yesterday, we had the pleasure of receiving our $4,000 grant from The Capricornian, proudly presented by Barb.”

“Our Club is forever grateful for the support and funds which will be used to ensure our upcoming EPSC Winter Solstice SC Meet goes ahead. It gives us the ability to continue to provide fun yet competitive opportunities to swimmers across the Capricorn Coast and wider CQ Region through the winter months, and to chase qualifying times for upcoming State events!”

Celebrating the Capella Country Music Festival 2026

We’re thrilled to announce that the Capella Country Music Festival 2026 is one of our Community Grant Recipients for Round 15 (2025)!

This much‑loved, family‑friendly event will take place in the heart of the Central Highlands from 5 – 10 May 2026. Entirely community‑led, the festival brings together locals and visitors to celebrate the best of Australian country music, while also boosting tourism and local businesses in the region.

The Capella Country Music Festival isn’t just about great music. It’s about:

Supporting tourism and showcasing everything the Central Highlands has to offer. Strengthening community pride with a welcoming, family‑friendly atmosphere

By investing in events like this, The Capricornian helps ensure that small communities have the opportunity to host large‑scale events that deliver both cultural and economic benefits.

Hydration and Happiness at Crescent Lagoon State School

We’re thrilled to announce that Crescent Lagoon State School’s P&C Association is a proud recipient of funding through our Community Grants Program Round 15!

Thanks to a $4,400 grant, students at Crescent Lagoon are bubbling with excitement as they prepare to welcome new hydration taps to their school grounds. This initiative will help provide improved access to clean, chilled water for the entire school community.

It’s all part of our commitment to supporting grassroots projects that make a real difference in the lives of local families. Congratulations to Crescent Lagoon State School P&C- we can’t wait to see the positive impact these hydration stations will bring!

What is the Capricornian Community Grants Program?

Our goal at The Capricornian is to support and strengthen our relationships with worthy initiatives and organisations in Central Queensland. We achieved this objective by creating The Capricornian Community Grants Program in 2018. This program was established to provide support to small, unincorporated groups and medium-sized organisations in Queensland.

Thanks to this program, we can provide financial and in-kind support to these organisations and our surrounding communities. Each grant request is assessed individually. We evaluate requests based on application merit, community needs, and whether the application has met the Community Grant selection criteria.
