The Capricornian ‘Steps Up’ for RACQ Cap Rescue

For over 21 years, RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service has provided a vital service to Central Queensland, performing over 7,000 tasks during this period of operation. Cap Rescue hosts and supports dozens of events each year that rely on the assistance of volunteers, such as the Community Open Day, Paradise Lagoons Campdraft and the Emergency Services Day. These events are spread far and wide across the Capricorn region and often require a team of more than three volunteers per event.

The volunteer duties can be quite demanding, requiring volunteers who are physically capable of carrying out challenging tasks. For these reasons they cannot continue to attend and host such events with the number of volunteers that they currently have. So when The Capricornian became aware of the Step Up Volunteer Program, they jumped at the chance to be involved. Justin Stitt, Manager Member Engagement said “The Capricornian is excited to assist the RACQ Helicopter Rescue. As a local, community-owned organisation we see it as extremely important to throw our support behind this program and keep the service in the air. We encourage all businesses to get involved any way they can.”
