Community Grants

Our focus is on strengthening relationships and supporting worthy organisations and initiatives in Central Queensland. That’s why we introduced The Capricornian Community Grants Program in 2018. The program has been established for the purpose of providing support to organisations from small, unincorporated groups to medium-sized organisations.

Through our Community Grants Program we aim to provide financial and in-kind support to local not-for-profit groups to help them bring their worthwhile projects or events to life.

We ask that any not-for-profit organisations seeking financial support for a project or event, apply for funding through our Community Grants Program. Each grant request is assessed individually, based on community need, application merit and whether the application has met the Community Grant selection criteria.

Community Grant Recipients [just a few!]

Caribeae Swimming Club

Over 200 competitors from 16 local and regional Queensland swimming clubs made a splash at the 2022 Beef City meet in October.  Highlights from the program included Speed Machine finals, where swimmers collected hard-earned cash in the 50 metre sprint event.

The highly entertaining Top Gun challenge was the last individual event on the program, where the top 8 overall fastest male and female swimmers compete in a knockout style sprint in 4 x 50 metre back-to-back races. The slowest two swimmers are eliminated until only two remain, with the winner crowned “Top Gun”.

Capella State High School P&C Association

Capella State High School P&C Association was one of the successful applicants for the round nine Community Grants Program.

Capella State High School is working to grow young people’s health and well-being through expanding sport offerings at the school with the Volleyball Excellence Program. This grant will enable the school to deliver the program with quality resources. An electronic scoreboard to share scores as opposed to flipping cards on a table is just one example! The new equipment is on order and will arrive for use next term!

Fitzroy Frogs Triathlon Club

The Capricornian are thrilled to announce the signing of a three year corporate partnership with The Fitzroy Frogs who were initially recipients of a Community Grant in 2020.

As Major Sponsor of the event for the second year in a row, the aptly named ‘The Capricornian Rocky Tri’ is a Women’s and Under 15’s endurance multisport race, consisting of swimming, cycling, and running.

Michelle Williamson, The Fitzroy Frogs event coordinator said the event is about empowering participants in a supportive and all-inclusive environment.

Rockhampton Equestrian Group Inc

Rockhampton Equestrian Group Inc was awarded a grant of $600 to assist with hosting the REGI 2022 Dressage Competition.

The REGI was established in 2021 by a small, but very motivated group of equestrian enthusiasts. During the past 12 months the group has grown rapidly, expanding from just under 70 financial members at the end of 2021 to 130 in 2022.

The 2022 competition will include classes for inexperienced horses and riders through to the more competent competitors. The event is recognised by Interschool Queensland, giving our junior riders the opportunity to qualify for the Qld Interschool Equestrian Championships.

Narnia Kindy

Narnia Kindy’s main object was to increase usable floor space for children. The kindy have an outdoor patio that can become very sunny, and useable for the children for must of the day.

The Capricornian donated a grant to enclose this areas using full length blinds, thus increasing space for the children to have a safe area protected from the sun to learn outdoors. This will grow their their skills and help become ready to move into Prep.

Rockhampton Hockey Association

Staff volunteered their time to run a free sausage sizzle for the Junior Semi-Final day at Kalka Shades.

The Capricornian donated “Player of the Final” prize packs to the U12 & U15 boys and girls divisions. Justin Stewart (Operations Manager) presented these prize packs and is pictured with Caleb Jensen, U12 Player of the Final.

Capricornian signage will be proudly displayed at Kalka Shades for 2021 and 2022 on both of their fields. Also, Rockhampton Hockey Association umpires (juniors and seniors) will sport Capricornian branded polos.
