As 2016 gave way to 2017 there were a number of events and activities that highlighted our connection with our community. On Sunday 16 October staff from Yeppoon and Rockhampton participated in the annual Yeppoon Lions Pinefest Parade. This year’s theme of ‘Carnivale’ made for plenty of colour and lots of fun for our staff and their families as they got into the spirit of the event! Pinefest is a big event for our Yeppoon community and we’re proud to support this year after year.
The year marched on and before we knew it Christmas was once again on everyone’s minds! In Rockhampton a number of staff participated in the annual Rockhampton Christmas Parade on Thursday 10 November, proudly organized by the Cancer Council Queensland and Stockland Rockhampton. It was great to join in with the many other floats, hand out lollies and spread some Christmas cheer.
Staff across the organisation also got behind our annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas Appeal, donating many presents, food items and other Christmas essentials to help out local families in need. Every year the Adopt-A-Family Christmas Appeal rallies around local businesses and community members to support those in need and to brighten up the lives of local families facing adversity at Christmas time.
In the spirit of Christmas, the staff at The Capricornian are always happy to help, and as a community minded financial institution have been supporting the ‘Adopt-A-Family for Christmas’ appeal since its inception.
On Thursday 24 November the 2016 Annual General Meeting was held at the Rockhampton Jockey Club. There was a great turnout from members and Chairman Tony Edwards outlined a strong financial year and bright future ahead for the credit union. The AGM was also the first opportunity for our members to meet new CEO Dale Grounds.
Dale was enthused at the results presented at this year’s AGM and encourages all members to take full advantage of what it means to be a part of The Capricornian.
“This is your credit union, and your ownership is something very powerful” he said. “We want to hear what you think, and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other. I look forward to seeing you all at the next AGM.”
